  • A twin-engine jet cargo aircraft taking off to the north on runway 33 from Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport just after noon on one of the shortest days in December when the sun reaches its zenith at only about 5 degrees above the horizon.  There is only a narrow strip of open sky above the Kenai Mountains to the south and heavy wind-sculpted overcast above.
