  • Alaska.  Architectural sign for the new Alaska Department of Fish and Game William Jack Hernandez Sport Fish Hatchery near Ship Creek with snow on the ground in front and along the top of the sign and a blue sky background in November.  Completed in mid-2011, the facility is used to raise king and silver salmon, rainbow trout, arctic char, lake trout, and arctic grayling, and with over140,000 square feet of area is the largest enclosed sport fish hatchery in North America.

  • Using a fly rod and large streamer fly is the preferred method of catching red salmon in the Kenai and Kasilof Rivers.  Use of heavy sinkers is also required to get down where the fish are in swift waters.  July is the month with the largest run of red salmon and king salmon on the famous Kenai River.
