• Ketchikan Alaska. Eagle Totem .
Ketchikan is named after Ketchikan Creek, which flows through the town. Ketchikan comes from the Tlingit name for the creek, Kitschk-hin, which means "spread wings of a prostrate eagle", which is said to refer to an outlined likeness of this image created by some nearby stream's course.

Tlingit carver Nathan Jackson works at the Saxman Carving Shed in Saxman, two miles south of Ketchikan. Nathan Jackson, Master Carver and a Chilkoot Tlingit, has been working in Alaska Native arts since 1959. He attended the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

 • Ted Stevens International Airport has a small native arts display, most of which is covered up now and in repair due to radiation damage. While waiting for my plane to Billings, I took some photos of what was out to view. This mask is carved by Nathan Jackson of Ketchikan. I love the shadows of the dreamcatcher in the corner. Its a good study of color temperature, with all the direct light and shadow.
