Alaska, Fairbanks, Creamer's Field, in August. Close-up of a stand of fireweed (Epilobium angustifolium) in the seed stage. The bright white fluff attached to the seeds provides a means of transporting the seeds on the wind ensuring widespread propogation. This fluff was also used by native peoples as material for blankets, clothing, and mattresses, especially in combination with other hair, wool, or feathers.
