Alaska. Low-angle sun on a very cold winter day shining through a layer of fog over the entrance to Turnagain Arm south of Anchorage creating a bright vertical column of light extending to the surface. Outside air temperature is about minus 5 degrees F. Small fingers of fog can be seen rising from the surface where the water is warmer than the air and snow covers the mudflats near shore.
